Our Brand New Office

Working environment’s are increasingly getting a lot of press for their weird, wonderful and quirky features. Slides, bean bags, neon signs, arcade games - the ultimate playground! The idea (at least in our humble opinion) is creating an environment that makes everyone feel safe, secure, healthy and happy everyday. For us, our working space needs to say who we are as a company and not just about dotting around beanbags for the sake of it! These were the key ideas that shaped our the search for our brand new office in Nottingham earlier this year. 

E-days marked its 13th birthday earlier this year, and the company had grown from a young start up to a significant SME in the very same space. With some big plans to grow the team in the next 18 months, we knew that the time was ripe for a new home. 

We found a beautiful space in Castle Wharf, close to Nottingham city centre, after a search around some of the city’s dustiest building sites. CEO Steve, CTO Chris and HR Manager Clare knew that the closeness of the office near to 5 different pubs would seal the deal!

We tasked local company Butler and Willow with the internal fit out, who transformed the empty shell into a funky, modern and functional space. Butler and Willow were working to a brief that was put together by our own employees. Our ‘new office super-planning group’ had helped create moodboards of ideas showcasing what they loved and would represent who we are as a company. All of the practical and fun elements were driven by what our people really wanted! Butler and Willow did an amazing job and brought those ideas to vivid life. We are so so excited by the result!

Our amazing furniture was sourced by Utility+. We wanted some really cool pieces that made the office feel more like a home away from home, rather than a typical office, and not ‘quirky’ for the sake of it. Although we’re a tech company, we all agreed that bean bags were out, and instead opted for Scandi-style wooden tables, sofas and chairs.

A really important aspect of the new space was to create break-out space, away from desks for people to have lunch, chat or have meetings without feeling super formal.

 Our sales team requested a special space where they could do software demos with our potential customers without background noise from the rest of the office so we created ‘Podrick’, our acoustic-protected booth!

Our mini meeting room is casual - so there’s no table to sit around. Instead, we can have coffee shop style chats and brainstorm around a screen. We named this room after the very first “test” employee who went into the e-days system - Miles Barclay! You might have met him on a system demo :)

And finally, the most important aspect was bringing everyone into one shared working space. One Team One Dream! You can see everyone from all areas of the floor and we’ve protected the sound travelling with some glass partitions. Everyone has big desks with separate lockers to secure their stuff during the day.
